MIKE THOMSON -- BIOGRAPHY Mike was born on April 8, 1946 and was reared in Craig, MO. He graduated from Craig High School in 1964 and went to Northwest Missouri State University where here earned a Bachelor of Science Degree (1968) and a Master of Science Degree (1971). Mike began a career in public education at Jefferson High School in Conception Junction, MO. In the 12 years there, he served as a teacher, counselor, coach and administrator. He moved to Maryville High School in 1980 where he served as guidance counselor and coach for 18 years. Mike returned to Northwest Missouri State University in 1998 as an instructor in the Department of Psychology, Sociology and Counseling and in 2002 moved to Admissions where he was employed prior to deciding to run for the representative seat being vacated by Brad Lager. Mike's wife, Nancy, was reared in Atchison and Holt Counties and
Being very active over the years in professional organizations, Mike is still a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, Missouri Retired Teachers Association, and the Missouri School Counselors Association. He is currently a member of the Optimist Club of Maryville. Mike's professional honors include: Missouri Secondary Counselor of the Year, Northwest Missouri District Counselor of the Year, Who's Who among America's teachers, Maryville High School Outstanding Teacher of the Year, Midland Empire Basketball Coach of the Year, and Northwest District Industrial Arts Teacher of the Year. Since joining the Missouri Legislature, he has received many awards, including:
Mike currently serves in the House as the Chairman of the Higher Education Committee. He also is a member of the Education Appropriations Committee, Budget Committee, Elementary and Secondary Education Committee, and the Joint Committee on Education. Mike and Nancy are members of Laura Street Baptist Church in Maryville
